What do you get when you cross a Mastiff bitch with a male Labrador? Well, it appears that you get a strange mixture of strength, stamina and alertness blended with gentle faithfulness and affection.
In short, you get Ben: A two-year-old “puppy”. Look carefully into his glistening Labrador eyes, and you’ll understand. Here’s one of my favourite “goofy face” pictures.
Come hail or shine, Ben will be hanging around you, if you’re busy with something outside. He also fancies himself as a grass-eater, spending a large proportion of his days eating copious amounts of yummy juicy grass, and weeds, and lawn, and daisies… a real sheepish sheep-dog. Oh yes, and when he’s not eating grass, he might be eating someone’s unattended sandals or pyjamas or gumboots or cycling helmet. And when he’s not eating, he’ll be racing up and down along the Kents Road boundary fence chasing cars and bikes and trailers and trucks and postmen. Oh yes, and the lady with the Jack Russell, who walks past every day – in both directions.
Ben sure is a busy bloke. Cross but most certainly loveable.
