A Stroll along Waikanae Beach

waikanae-beach1

The regulations governing use of the Waikanae Beach for Summer and Winter are clearly spelled out on this easy-to-read notice board. The various activities are limited to various demarcated areas. They relate to things like the use of motor vehicles, horses, dogs on and off leashes, fires with permits, camping and the like.

Interesting to note: Where “No vehicles allowed”, then the fine is $750, and the same fine for riding motor bikes on the beach at any time. “Not picking up Dog poo” carries a penalty of $300!

(Above): All along the dune-front, we found “sour figs” in bloom. Should be able to harvest them in a couple of weeks. Note the white butterfly which I also managed to capture in the picture!
