This morning Bennie came running in from the front gate, a wet grey smelly creature dangling from his jowls. We tried in vain for quite some time to rescue the unfortunate critter from a certain demise, but, alas to no avail.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it was one of my socks which had apparently escaped from the room during the night and had tried to do a runner. He was indeed a shocking stocking. An ex-sock, if you will. He had served me gallantly for seven weeks, but eventually ran out steam and could continue no more. R.I.P dear Grey Sock.
His cousins, all my other socks, are on a joy-ride in the vessel Glory. The last time I saw them was on 24 December at Dolphin Beach. They became part of Our Stuff, when the Pickfords fellows had packed them in “179 packages”
So, what’s the (almost) final progress of Our Stuff? The good news is that I can confirm that the Glory docked in the Port of Tauranga just after midnight Saturday 8 March 2014, and, all going well, should reach Wellington on Monday-ish.
Tauranga is the most populous city in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island. It was settled by Māori late in the 13th century and by Europeans in the early 19th century and was constituted as a city in 1963. Tauranga City is the centre of the sixth largest urban area in New Zealand, with an urban population of 123,500 (2013 estimate).
The city lies in the north-western corner of the Bay of Plenty, on the south-eastern edge of Tauranga Harbour. It expands over an area of 168 square kilometres, and includes the communities of Bethlehem, Greerton, Matua, Maungatapu, Mount Maunganui, Otumoetai, Papamoa and Welcome Bay.
Tauranga is one of New Zealand's main centres for business, international trade, culture, fashion and horticultural science. The Port of Tauranga is New Zealand's largest port in terms of gross export tonnage and efficiency.
