1 March 2014: officially the start of the March to May autumn season. I’ve noticed how late the sun rises and how much earlier it sets at night. Summer has departed and our trusty leaf-dropping friend Autumn is on our doorstep. In the mornings the thermometer in the car bears testimony to this. Also my toes.
(Above): Recent high winds have assisted some of the trees in undressing, and spraying the yellowing and brown foliage all around forming a natural mulch and compost layer.
According to the Met service, in December the sunrise was at 5:40am and sunset at 21:00 (15h hours 20 minutes), whilst at the start of March, they are 7:15am and 19:47 (12hours 32 minutes)
(Above): From our upstairs bedroom window, some of the trees are stretching their bare spindly arms and fingers skyward, while (below) others like the pine firs remain a verdant green.
Whilst looking at the various historical weather data, these numbers make interesting reading, considering their geographical location.
